Yes, we do have our own castle – at Suuremõisa, once a home to a coastal pirate. His stories have been penned down in the novels “The Pirate” and “Mermaid Shallows” by Herman Sergo. Time seems to stop in Hiiumaa, giving you a chance to finish reading all the books you started during the year.

Hiiumaa is one of the oldest islands in the world. Honestly. The artesian wells on the streets of Kärdla are tangible proof of that. We owe their crystal-clear water, with its obvious healing properties, to the meteorite impact that occurred about 455 million years ago.
