Horseback riding

Horseback riding offers a unique way to experience the natural wonders and breathtaking scenery of the islands. Local horse farms offer guided tours across idyllic fields, tranquil forests and picturesque coastal areas.

Have you ever dreamed of galloping along the water’s edge at the seaside, riding through the forest like a true Viking or feeling like a princess in a beautiful carriage? On the islands of Saaremaa and Muhu, these dreams can become a reality.

In the stables, visitors will most often find Estonian horse breeds – calm, cheerful and friendly animals. Unlike long-limbed, elite breeds that struggle with Saaremaa’s windy climate, these robust, locally bred horses are perfectly suited to the terrain. Thanks to their gentle temperament and smaller size, Estonian horses are also ideal for beginners and children.

Discover the islands on horseback

In the village of Hellamaa lies the oldest and largest horse farm on Muhu Island – Tihuse – where 270 Estonian-bred horses roam freely. The owner of Tihuse Farm, a devoted keeper of local traditions, has made it his mission to share the island’s ancient culture with the farm’s visitors. Tihuse horses will then guide you through the stunning landscapes of Muhu, leading you to explore enchanting forests and the world of mystical faeries.

Estonian-bred horses are also waiting for you at Tika Farm, located near Pöide, where you can ride both in the farm’s riding ring and across the surrounding land. Depending on the length of the ride you choose, you can explore peaceful forest paths, juniper-covered coastal meadows or the seashore. The horses at Tika Farm are well-suited for riders of all levels, from beginners to experienced equestrians. The farm owner humorously reassures first-time riders by saying, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll find you a horse that’s also going for its first ride.’
